Dr. Robert Peppercorn of the Advanced Dermatology and Laser Center has received a national award in the annual State-of-the-Art photography contest sponsored by ALK-Abello. His winning photo of a lioness and her two young cubs on the African Plain will be featured with 11 others in a calendar being produced by the company. His work was chosen from 150 contestants and will also be displayed at international trade shows. The global company produces injectable allergy serums. The doctor's winning entry was taken on a photo safari he took with his wife and daughter in July.

They traveled through the preserves and countryside of Kenya and Tanzania. The winning photo is a face-on shot of a mother lion flanking her two young cubs. While his interest in photography dates back to the age of 12, when he used birthday money to buy a 35mm camera, he only ever publicly displayed his work at the 1983 Yuba-Sutter Fair where he got an honorable mention.
